Drummer Brian Melvin was a frequent Jaco collaborator
late in Jaco's life. He recorded several albums with him
including the two Nightfood albums.
All in all its quite a blur. Jaco was many spirits flying around all at once. I feel very grateful and humble to have met, known and played with Jaco. It seems like yesterday we were playing some ball or getting into some sort of fun somewhere. We had our sad moments together. I treasure those the most since Jaco was free to be himself around my family and myself. He was not afraid of his feelings, and had a rough time controlling them. Maybe there is a lesson or two right there.
Musically
and artistically he was walking on a different street than most. I think
he added some profound rhythm to our Universe. He was a groover committed to
groove. At the same time a master of melody and harmony. He was a child of
the music spirits and will always be a source to all to call upon for
inspiration into the world of imagination. Jaco was talented, yes, but he worked
hard and had the ethic of a sportsman on his instrument. God bless Jaco and in
this wheel of life we should look forward to his spirit re entering the music at
all time.
With
Love. Your friend. Brian Melvin.
